Road Safety Wisdom for The Youth 2023

Good day distinguished ladies and gentlemen. According to the World Health Organisation, approximately 1.3 million people die in road crashes each year, and between 20 and 50 million more people suffer non-fatal injuries. Crash injuries are the leading cause of death for children and young people between 5 – 29 years of age.

I welcome you to this great event.

You are going to have a great time this morning. This program encapsulates vital information that will be useful to you today and in the future. We have distinguished professionals who are here today to give us a robust understanding of the subject matter. They will be sharing important ideas you may not have heard before.

It is an honour to be here today with great people. Only the very best in their field will make out the time and sacrifice to be here today, defying the weather, distance, and other encumbrances.

Some years ago, my niece was involved in a ghastly motor accident on her way back from the NYSC camp, Sagamu. The bus she was in had 37 corps members. The bus suffered brake failure, swerved off the highway, landed in a ditch and caught fire. Thankfully, no one died but injuries of varying degrees were sustained. This is to let you know how important the issue of road safety is, especially for young people who are the future of the nation.

I end this speech with this anonymous quote which says “safety is as simple as ABC.”
A – Always
B- Be
C- Careful.

Finally, ensure to drive like every child on the road is your own. My name is Okwudili C. Daniel, Do have a wonderful time and enjoy the rest of the event.
